Inspiration
A relatable example can open up a possibility that did not feel visible before.

A movement bringing people together through mental health conversations, inspiration and action. We use lived experience, sport and community projects to help more people see what is possible—and take a step towards it.
The four steps of Why Not I
A relatable example can open up a possibility that did not feel visible before.
That possibility can become a direction—something personal and worth moving towards.
Support, opportunity and connection can help turn intention into a practical step.
A step taken can change what someone believes is possible—and inspire the next person to begin.
The cycle begins again with every person who takes a step. Inspiration is a beginning—not a substitute for practical support or a solution to every barrier.
Our work
We connect with people through engagements, activity-led Workouts and Wings of Hope activations. Each area creates a different way to meet, move, reflect and contribute.

Engagements
Speaking events, workshops and community activations are occasions to connect with people through conversation, shared experience and practical action.
The hand-painted basketball court at Summerfield Park in Birmingham turned a familiar public space into a visible expression of belief and community. It reflects a simple Why Not I principle: spaces people already care about can become places for connection, possibility and action.

Activity-led experiences use sport and other interests to create space for mental health education, reflection, connection and aspiration.
Previous Why Not I Workouts brought basketball training and mental resilience into the same day. The 2025 activation welcomed junior and senior players for physical challenge, breathing, reflection and conversation—using an activity they already cared about as the place to begin.

Wings of Hope
Wings of Hope activations are developed with others to give back to communities and organisations around a particular need.
With Coffee 4 Craig, donated food, clothing and haircuts were provided alongside mental health support. At Manchester Royal Children’s Hospital, a Christmas activation brought food, toys, clothes, hair and makeup, and uplifting conversations for children.

The person who started it
Why Not I began with a question Kofi Josephs had to ask himself. His experiences in professional sport and with his own mental health led him to speak openly about what can sit behind outward success. The movement grew from a belief that being the example, creating connection and giving people a chance to act can make a difference.
