Why Not I Workouts

Why Not I Workouts brings mental health learning into the sports people already care about. Each experience combines activity with honest conversation, reflection and practical tools for navigating pressure, identity and the pursuit of personal goals.
Explore the WorkoutsThe approach
Basketball gives the documented groups a familiar, shared place to begin.
Participants come to train together, hear lived experience and make space to consider mindset and mental health. Why Not I’s wider ambition is to connect through people’s interests; these pages document basketball Workouts, not completed programmes in other activities.
Workouts are educational community experiences. They are not clinical treatment and cannot promise an improvement in mental health for every participant.

Young England and Great Britain basketball talent took part in training and mental resilience learning.
The day connected detailed basketball work with an opening talk, challenging questions and a Why Not I booklet. Participants’ accounts describe physical drills alongside thinking about mindset, identity and mental health.
Junior and senior basketball talent came together for physical training and mental resilience activity.
The film documents basketball and fitness work alongside mental health education, breathing exercises, meditation and a mindfulness or yoga session.
Voices from the Workouts
“I enjoyed the basketball workout and what was being taught. I enjoyed how inspiring your talk was at the start and how you asked us challenging questions which made me think.”
“It brought together hoopers, not just to train but to be able to learn different techniques for off the court such as breathing exercises and meditation.”
Build a future experience together
